All non-electric MBTA buses are equipped with a bike rack that can hold 2 conventional bikes.Before the bus arrives, remove any bags or loose items from your bike.When the bus arrives, wait until it comes to a complete stop and let the driver know you’re going to use the bike rack.

Loading the Bike Rack

1.Squeeze the handle in the center of the rack and pull it down until it’s flat.
2.Front wheel first, put your bike into the rack wheel slot. Use the slot closest to the bus first.
3.Pull out the support arm and raise it over the front tire or rotate the level to secure the tire.
4.Check that your bike is secure. Bikes are not allowed to be locked to the rack.
5.Let the driver know where you’re getting off, and be sure to watch your bike while you’re on board.

Unloading the Bike Rack

1.Let the driver know you’ll be taking your bike out of the rack.
2.Raise the support arm off the tire, or rotate the level to loosen.
3.Lift your bike out of the rack.
4.If the rack is empty, squeeze the handle in the center and fold it back up until it locks.
5.Let the driver know you’re done, and wait until the bus leaves before getting on your bike.

Things to Know

• The MBTA is not responsible for stolen or damaged bikes.
• Always let the driver know that you’ll be loading or unloading the bike rack before walking in front of the bus.
• Never crouch down below the driver’s sight line in front of the bus.
• Never cross the street in front of the bus with your bike—traffic can’t see around it.
